We are a husband and wife photography team based in Hertfordshire. The idea of this blog is to share with you our recent shoots, personal work and other bits and pieces we think you might find interesting.
We would love to hear your comments and feedback so please do get in touch!
So, sit back and enjoy a little of our life and a lot of what we love.
Good question, and one that many brides ask themselves. Below are some reasons why we think is is important to hire a professional to capture those once in a lifetime moments.
Everyone these days has a digital camera, so why should I pay someone to shoot my wedding?
Some food for thought; Ian has a kitchen and access to ingredients but it doesn’t mean he can cook like Gordon Ramsay!
As with every profession, skill and experience play a massive part. So, on with the post….
Why should I hire a professional photographer to shoot my wedding?
What distinguishes a professional photographer from an amateur or weekend photographer?
A professional photographer is prepared for virtually anything that could go wrong and will have a backup plan.
The professional knows that this is a once in a lifetime event and can’t be rescheduled.
Professionals know the importance of being prompt and will often arrive at events early just to be safe.
A professional uses professional equipment that is designed to be reliable and dependable and just to be safe, they will also bring backups for all key items (e.g. extra camera, flash, lenses).
An experienced wedding photographer will be at ease at your wedding, they will be used to working with individuals, couples, and groups to make the day go smoothly.
Professionals understand the importance of archival printing and use labs that print to high standards of quality.
A professional will have sourced a reputable company to produce your wedding album. They understand the importance of presentation and will want you to have a beautiful reminder of your special day.
What a wonderful way to start our 2010 wedding diary, sharing Sarah and John’s wedding day at the weekend. Considering the time of year we were extremely lucky with the weather on the day. The light showers gave us a break for just enough time to get the group, confetti and couple shots done outside the lovely Lemsford church. We then headed to Auberge du Lac, chosen for it’s gastronomic delights which shone for the occasion. Sarah’s attention to detail was faultless. She had thought of everything from the simple classic colour scheme, to the collection of jars of seasonal white flowers on the tables, to the sparklers after dinner.
We left on a real high after a fantasticly memorable day, hope you like the sneak preview below.
Sarah & John, we hope you are havng a fantastic honeymoon, can’t wait to show you the rest of the photos!
“Futures” is the quartely magazine pruduced by the University of Hertfordshire. The pictures on the front cover and inside were created at the opening event last year. The Forum is the new £38 million entertainment facility which was opened by the dance act Diversity which are shown on a previous blog post in September.
The below link is to a Broadcast made on LBC Radio (London’s Big Conversation) the discussion was about wedding photography. The previous callers all had really bad horror stories of wedding photography. The voice you hear is that of the groom in the pictures that are showing in the movie.
Here are a few shots from our shoot on Friday. We had the pleasure of meeting Woddy, the 6th member of the family, he seemed pretty intrigued by the camera, either that or he was petrified!
Henry, Freddie and Matilda were fantasic and put up with 2 hours out in the cold. We started off at the house and heard all about their hobbies and watched on as Henry scaled the apple tree! Then off to the park to slide in some mud - great stuff!
At last, new pictures I hear you cry! Yes this is the first picture blog of the year and what a cute start. We have had several commercial jobs so far this year but I know that it’s the family and weddings that everyone is more interested in. So, here is a little snippet from a shoot we did on Tuesday of one month old Nathan. Is’nt he adorable! I think I actually felt a touch broody after meeting him!
He was so good and hardly grumbled at all. Ian & Eleanor, it was great to meet you all and we can’t wait to show you the rest.
Hello and a belated Happy New Year to all our brides past and present and to those of you who have just popped in to have a look. We hope you had a wonderful christmas and are looking forward to the year ahead. An exciting one to those of you getting married! So new years resolutions….well appart from the usual get fit and shift the Christmas tummy (that goes for Ian as well!) I really need to get on the case with the whole social networking, face book and twitter. I know, I am sounding like my parents now, really out of date! So very soon I hope you will be following us on both and I look forward to receiving your tweets! See I know all the lingo, that’s thanks to Fearn Cotton on Radio1 !
The end of 2009 was a hectic one as usual with completing orders and getting them delivered in time for Christmas, as well as moving house! They say it is one of the most stressful things you can do and I now know why! We are absolutely loving it and the added space. The really fun bit starts now, decorating, buying soft furnishings and new furniture!! So more space for us and for the business, yippeee!
We are really looking forward to getting together with our 2010 couples and get underway with pre wedding shoots. As last year we are lucky enough to be photographing at some exciting places this year including St.Pauls cathederal and Hampton court Palace so keep an eye out for something a little bit different. No overseas commissions yet this year but hey there is still time.
So, the start of the year is always busy with wedding shows and this year is no different. We were at Fanhams Hall last weekend which was a great success. We met some lovely couples, some of which we are meeting up with again soon, and hope to have the pleasure of capturing their day.
Our next show is at Hatfield House on the 21st February, then Tewin Bury Farm on the 21st March, and Pendley Manor on 25th April. If you are visiting any of them do come over and say hi and have alook through our gorgeous Queensberry albums. This year we will be adding to our collections the beautiful Duo album which is a combination of the matted and flush mount styles. They really have to be seen to be believed.
If you can’t make it to the shows and would like to get together please either drop me a line or better still, call me for a chat.
January 27, 2010 - 7:52 pmDoug Jenner - Hi Ian and Emma,
Hope you're well.
Great looking blog! Just stumbled in here by accident. Are you tweeting about this?
Cheers for now,
Doug
I just wanted to share some shots from a family shoot we did last year that. We met Sophie at an event at the Abbey school in St.Albans. We were one of the sponsors for the schools eco garden that they built and planted in the summer. We met the very good looking Banks family including Lilly the dalmation at their home and started off with some shots in their garden. We then went over to Verulamium park to expell some energy!
“We are so thrilled with our photos from Ian Scott photography. We can’t believe how fantastic we all look! The shoot was great fun and the children really enjoyed it and because they were comfortable and happy and totally at ease with Ian and Emma, the pictures that Ian got of them were absolutely beautiful. Everyone who has seen the pictures is bowled over by them. The lighting is perfect - they really have captured the best possible images of us. The frames are gorgeous too - we really couldn’t be happier with the end results, we can’t stop looking at them. They were worth every penny!”

On Monday we had the pleasure of photographing Kerry & Matt’s wedding at Tewin Bury Farm. After an assortment of weather over the last few weeks we were so pleased that we had a sunny day with no snow - however Tewin did see a short flurry of snow at around 5pm…. when the snow machine was turned on!
Kerry and Matt are truly a perfect couple and headover heels in love which was so evident on the day. It was a beautiful day brimming with emotion that we thoroughly enjoyed capturing. We hope you like the taster of images below, the rest will be online at the end of January, enjoy!
January 1, 2010 - 7:32 pmMatt - Ian & Emma,

Once again thank you both so much.
Lots of love

Yesterday we were hosting a Winter Portrait seminar at The Annabel Williams Studio in the Lake District. Annabel’s fantastic new studio is in the mill yard in Staveley which lends itself to great backgrounds for portraits and also gave us cover from the relentless rain. A big thank you to all the photographers that came to the course, the models who gave their time and the AW team who as always made us feel very welcome and catered for everyone’s needs.
Here are a few highlights from the day.
