Introductory Photography Workshop & the next step ‘In Focus’ Workshop

Photography is like cooking – there are many ingredients that produce a good meal and the same is true of photography!

To come on these courses you will need to bring;

  • A camera (DSLR preferable for the ‘in focus’ workshop)
  • A memory card that isn’t too full!
  • A love of learning and photography
  • The willingness to share and learn with others!


Introductory Photography Workshop

Demystify the mystery surrounding your camera!

In this 2 hour fun, informative and hands-on session Ian will cover the basics including;

  • Understanding the settings on your camera
  • How to compose a good photograph
  • An introduction to ISO, shutter speed and aperture
  • Tips on using natural light

September 20th 7.30pm – 9.30pm

‘In Focus’ photography workshop

Have you picked up your camera since you joined us on our Introduction to Photography Workshop?  This will be a practical workshop.
What will we cover in the 3 hours you spend with us?

  • Building confidence with your camera so you enjoy taking photographs
  • Composition
  • Understanding the importance of natural daylight, light direction and how to use this to your advantage when photographing people.
  • Creative use of aperture
  • Explore exposure compensation
  • Understanding white balance

The course will be run from our studio and outside space in Wheathampstead.
These ‘in focus’ workshops are aimed at people with Digital SLR and Bridge Cameras.
Places are limited to 6 per session.

One to one workshop options

If you are looking for a unique photography workshop for yourself or as a gift then a one to one masterclass may be the answer. Below are a couple of options:

Option 1 – £195

2 hours one to one tuition at our studio, including theory and hands on shooting. Ian will cover the main elements of exposure, ISO, aperture and shutter speed and how they affect each other. Tips on using natural light and understanding what makes a good photograph.

Option 2 – £365

4 hours one to one tuition starting at the studio. Ian will cover the main elements of exposure, ISO, aperture and shutter speed and how they affect each other. Tips on using natural light and understanding what makes a good photograph.
After getting to grips with your camera in the studio you will then meet with your family at a chosen location to put into practice what you have learnt while gaining knowledge on how to photograph portraits on location. Ian will be there to shoot along side you, assist you and give you tips along the way to help you understand natural light and improve your images.
After the shoot you return back to the studio to download your images and gain basic knowledge in post production resulting in images you can be proud of and a download of your own printable photographs.

    Developing photography skills at our recent ‘In Focus’ Workshop Our latest photography workshop entitled In Focus was held at our Hertfordshire studio on Saturday morning and we were all hoping for the forecast rain to hold off. The plan for the morning was to recap on the techniques taught on the Introductory Workshop and then combine practical sessions with some more advanced skills. The six enthusiastic photographers started by taking an initial series of photographs in the garden where there was a vast range of subjects to choose from.  Everyone selected their favourite photo and the aim was to improve on it by putting into practise what they were to learn during the session.
