I was asked to photograph graduates of the University of Hertfordshire who are now working as model makers at Madame Tussauds for a feature in their ‘futures’ magazine. I wanted to share some of my favourite shots with you – given the amazing subject matter!
I had never been to Madame Tussauds before and I really didn’t know what to expect, but I travelled with the people involved with the article so we could brainstorm for the brief further.
I was hoping to photograph behind the scenes of the actual model making process but on arrival we were told that cameras are not allowed in the area – access was denied – but we could use the life like models in the exhibit that was open to the public, so I had the opportunity to photograph George, Morgan, HRH Elizabeth II … William and Kate. Not to mention The Hulk and Spiderman …
The exhibit environment was quite dark so I needed to light the models carefully (to reduce post production edit). Whilst working I had to be clear on my remit – a double page spread and front cover. I had to consider vertical composition as well as horizontal.
The client and I are delighted with the results!
